The term 'assisted immigrant' refers to those people whose passage was subsidised or paid for through one of the several assisted immigration schemes which operated to New South Wales from the United Kingdom and other countries. To encourage migration, particularly of the working class, assisted migration was proposed and when this was tied to sales of land in the colonies, provided a way to rid excess British population at no cost to themselves. From 1831-1851, 100,000 arrived in the colonies through assisted immigration and by 1851, the percentage of convicts had fallen. Convicts comprised only 1.5% of population, emancipists 14% and free immigrants 41%  On his arrival in Sydney, it appears that David lived around the area now known as Camden and Campbelltown. It's not known how he and Mary met. They may have lived close to each other as Mary's residence was listed on their marriage certificate as Gledswood, a very well known homestead, she was a housemaid He married Mary Anne Gutteridge, daughter of Thomas Newton and Frances Gutteridge , on 9 Apr 1860 at St Johns Church, Camden, New South Wales, Australia. At the time of his daughter, Ada's,birth in 1873, David Boon (324) was a Labourer. From the publication, "The Weetangerra Methodist Church", it tells of how the original church was needed for a man with a family that had recently arrived. It was David Boon and family at Gininderra Creek, Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia. By 1875 David had established himself as a farmer and in that year he and Shelton Smith, also of Weetangera, were mentioned as growing 'perhaps the finest wheat produced in Australia'. The Boons were leading members of the Wesleyan Church and David taught and acted as Superintendent of the Sunday School at Weetangera Church. David Boon left the district in 1891.
